When in Rome!

The last two days have been spent in Italy’s capital city, Rome! After travelling from Florence we embarked on a busy two days running around the city indulging in the many years of history and culture. We began with the Vatican City, our local tour guide, Igor was fantastic with his extensive knowledge of the history and art. Igor highlighted the importance of many statues, paintings and tapestries. Guiding us through the gardens, guilted halls and sacred spaces, with the highlight being the Sistine Chapel. The students were allowed 20 minutes to explore the frescoes room, enough time to take in every inch without getting squished by the enormous crowd!
















After spending a few hours exploring everyone wanted the perfect photo in the recognizable St. Peter’s Basilica and Piazza San Piero in the background. After visiting one of many souvenir shops the group was off to dinner to taste some traditional Italian lasagna.



Today, was our second day in Rome and it was a busy one!

Beginning with a tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, everyone was left speechless standing in the shadow of the giant Colosseum! For two hours our local guide taught the group about the construction of the colesseum (which took just eight years!), the patrons, the gladiators and the emperors.









The Roman Forum proved to be another fascinating place for our group to explore and beautiful weather didn’t hurt either. After our local guide departed our Tour Director Claudio took us on a walking tour of the major tourist spots of the city; The Pantheon, Trevi Fountian, and the Piazza Novana.


























Exhausted from legging it through Rome the students are looking forward to a quieter day of travel and exploration of the ancient city of Pompei! After Pompei we will embark on a night ferry to Greece!

Bologna to Pisa

We had a fantastic day exploring all that Tuscany has to offer! Although the forecast called for some rain, we lucked out with sunshine and a little bit of drizzle near the end of the day. First stop - Bologna! On our way to Pisa, the group had the opportunity to check out the charming university town, which houses around 100, 000 students. Plenty of shops lined the narrow streets and they were beautifully decorated with archways. These colourful sidewalks lead us to the main square, called the Piazza Maggiore. It is home to a beautiful basilica, quaint tortellini restaurants, the Two Towers that once helped to guard the town, and the oldest university in Europe. This is where the students were able to spend some free time before catching the bus to Pisa. Ciao from Venice!

Today was a very exciting day as we ventured to Venice! We started with a hardy breakfast together at the hotel before hoping on the bus for a short drive, followed by a boat ride across the lagoon to Venice. Once our feet were on the ground on the island we met with local tour guide and embarked on a walking tour of the old city. The group had the opportunity to learn about the history of fierce sea battles, political power of the small state and the architecture of the city. Many photos were taken as we wondered thorough the narrow streets and over the many bridges. Beautiful sunny weather made for many smiling faces. One highlight of our tour was definitely a tour of a traditional Venetian glass factory, where glass is shaped by hand without any molds, a technique unique to Venice. Greece

Apologies for the delay in updates!!! The wifi has not been great in Greece thus far! We have woken up in Greece! After a wonderful stop in the beautiful and fascinating city of Pompeii, we have arrived safely in our overnight ferry from Italy! We awoke to blue skies and even bluer oceans! We quickly hopped a bus and began our journey to Delphi, a small mountain village with an incredible view. Lunch was a quiet stop at a small beachside restaurant followed by some time beach soaking and sun-soaking. Travelling from the seaside to he mountains in a few short hours had already shown is the diversity of the agreed landscape. The oooo’s and ahhhh’s of the students filled the bus as they snapped tons of photos from the windows!
