Ciao from Venice!

Today was a very exciting day as we ventured to Venice! We started with a hardy breakfast together at the hotel before hoping on the bus for a short drive, followed by a boat ride across the lagoon to Venice. Once our feet were on the ground on the island we met with local tour guide and embarked on a walking tour of the old city.

The group had the opportunity to learn about the history of fierce sea battles, political power of the small state and the architecture of the city. Many photos were taken as we wondered thorough the narrow streets and over the many bridges. Beautiful sunny weather made for many smiling faces.

One highlight of our tour was definitely a tour of a traditional Venetian glass factory, where glass is shaped by hand without any molds, a technique unique to Venice. Master glass blowers work for six to eight years as an apprentice before they can work as a master, and it is a profession passed down from generation to generation within families.

A ride on a traditional Gondola was another memorable moment of our tour, winding through the small canals and narrow waterways was a relaxing end to the tour. After a break for lunch the group was give free time, where the students could take the time to explore the city at their own pace and pick up souvenirs from the many shops.

Next stop Bologna and Pisa!
