What a whirlwind trip the last two weeks have been!! We have just arrived home yesterday afternoon with everyone intact and all passports in hand and smile on faces! Below are a few pictures taken at our final destinations, Heraklion of Crete and Oia of Santorini! This trip has been full of memories to last a lifetime, life lessons have been learnt, independence has been gained, adventure has been had and new friendships have been made. We are a small school and as chaperones we were surprised to learn that at the beginning of this trip that some of the students had never really spoken to each other, we started off as a small groups within a larger group of 26 but we can confidently say that we are returning from our European adventure as one big happy family. From Italy and Greece  and back, the kids were great, complaints were never made (even with that 4am wakeup!!) and their behaviour has shown what respectful young adults they all a

Samos & Patmos

Image
Our second day of island hoping consisted of Samos and Patmos, small more rural islands in comparison to buzzing Mykonos that we visited last night. Samos demanded a very early wake up call of 4 am! We departed the ship and ate breakfast at a small seaside restaurant with other EF Tours. After a good breakfast the group hopped on the bus and arrived at a small town to spend some time at the beach. After that we visited the archeological site of ..... a location that none of us had ever heard but that all of us were impressed to learn predates the Acropolis in Athens and was more then twice as large!  After our educational stop we hopped off at yet another small seaside town that was full of small town charm, with its white houses, blue doors, small brightly painted fishing boats and many friendly community dogs and cats.  The afternoon was spent in the largest of Samoa’s towns, the students were given a few hours of free time to explore be

Cruising

Image
Today was a quiet but exciting day, we boarded the ship this morning cruising the stunning blue Mediterrean for most of the day. So far the cruise has been our only opportunity for a bit of rest and relaxation, with the option to get a massage, sit by the pool, play games or just lay down to rest. Our first port of call was the island of Mykonos, the metropolitan of the Greek islands. A rocking island with stark white homes, endless blue painted doors and the famous windmills. Everyone spent their time walking through the winding streets getting lost in shop after shop full of honey, olive oil and colour textiles. Tomorrow will be a more active day with visits to two islands, Patmos and Samos! KES Europe Trip

OPA Athens - Day 2

Image
Our second day in Athens began with a history lesson and tour of the Acropolis. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and explained the story behind the city of Athens and how it got its name. A competition between the gods Apollo and Athena, with Athena winning the favour of the people by growing the first olive tree. After lunch we had free time for everyone’s favourite activity, shopping! Then it was a quick change and off to a highlight of our EF tour, a traditional Greek evening with singing, dancing, food and smashing of plates!! While enjoying many of Greece’s signature dishes, cheese pie, meatballs, potato and cheese croquettes, mousakka and Greek salad, finished off with fried doughnuts drizzled in cinnamon honey. Dancers performed various traditional dances from all over Greece, from the mainland and distant islands. We were also treated to a belly dancing performance and lesson, everyone got up on stage to try their hand (or rather feet!) at da

Delphi to Athens

Image
Today we woke up in Delphi and began our day with a guided visit to the Temple of Apollo. Two hours later we had seen ruins of houses, a temple, a small amphitheatre and a fascinating museum full of well preserved statues and artifacts. A quick stop for lunch on the side of a cliff proved to be a big crowd pleaser. Everyone is happy to eat Greek food, a lighter fare after eating pasta and gelato every day. After lunch we drove along the winding hillside roads to Athens. Upon arriving in Athens the group was treated to the view of the Acropolis at night and a walk through the famous Athenian markets. Another full day in Athens tomorrow. KES Europe TRip
